Terms of Service
Last updated: September 2026
The agreement
These terms govern your use of HAL (chatwithhal.com, the dashboard, the widget, the API, and the iOS app). By creating an account you accept them. If you accept on behalf of a company, you confirm you may bind it.
What HAL provides
HAL is a customer communication platform: a chat widget, a shared inbox, AI assistance, a lightweight CRM, automations, and integrations, as described on this site. Features available to you depend on your plan.
Your account
Keep your credentials confidential and your account information accurate. You are responsible for activity under your account and for your team’s use. Notify us immediately about unauthorized access.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use HAL to send spam, phishing, or unlawful content
- probe, scan, or attack the service or other customers
- resell or white-label the service beyond what your plan grants
- reverse engineer the service except where law allows
- use the widget or API to violate the rights or privacy of your visitors
Plans and payment
Paid plans bill monthly or yearly in EUR through Stripe. Yearly plans include two months free. Add-ons and seat overages are billed as published on the pricing page. Fees exclude VAT where applicable. Unpaid invoices may pause the workspace after notice; you can downgrade to Free at any time.
Your data and your visitors’ data
You own your content and your customer relationships. For visitor personal data you collect with HAL, you are the controller and HAL is the processor, acting on your instructions. Our GDPR data processing terms are part of these terms; request the DPA at privacy@chatwithhal.com. You are responsible for the lawful basis for identifying your visitors and for the content your automations send.
Intellectual property
HAL keeps all rights to the service, software, and branding. You keep all rights to your content, your knowledge base, and your visitors’ conversations. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership either way.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, HAL is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and total liability is capped at the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing limits liability for intent, gross negligence, or where law forbids the limitation.
Termination
You can cancel or downgrade anytime from billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period. We may suspend or terminate accounts for material breach or non-payment after notice. On termination your data follows the retention rules in the privacy policy, including the 30-day grace period.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product and law evolve. Material changes are announced by email and in the dashboard at least 30 days before taking effect. Continuing to use HAL after that means you accept the update.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the Republic of Slovenia. Disputes go to the courts of Slovenia, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your country gives you a better forum.
